His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq Silla was received on Wednesday, 11 October 2023 by Major General Mohamed Al-Miniawy, NSPO National Organization for Military Production. On Thursday 12 October 2023, he also met with General Islam Attia Rayan, the Board Chairman of the National Company for Fisheries and Aquaculture. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral ties with their respective institutions in various fields.

The National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) manufactures military and civilian products, and provides contracting services. It is subordinate to the Egyptian Ministry of Defence system, and was its established in accordance with a Presidential Decree. The National Company for Fishery & Aquaculture was established in 2015 providing fishery support and products for the people of Egypt and contributing to the lowering the prices of fish.

During the meeting, on Wednesday, General Mohamed Al-Mimiawy of NESPO expressed Egypt’s pride in the deep-rooted ties with Sierra Leone which have grown stronger in recent years, and the activation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by both countries Deputy Ministers of Defence in various fields. The discussions centered on the proposed areas that the visiting delegation will visit, schedules, events, activities, and timeliness ahead of the arrival of the Sierra Leonean delegation to Cairo. The objective of this is to set the stage for the fulfillment of the overall objective of joint cooperation. Both sides agreed that, with the guidance of Gen. Al-Miniawy, Ambassador Silla’s delegation will visit all the identified factories and sites prior to the arrival of the Sierra Leonean team.

Ambassador Silla’s visit comes in light of the outcome of the meeting with Gen Mohamed Al-Miniawy on Wednesday 11, October 2023. The Ambassador led a four-man delegation to the National Company for Fisheries and Aquaculture on Thursday, 12 October 2023. The delegation was received by Military General Islam Attia Rayan, head of the institution.

For his part, Ambassador Silla conveyed a message from the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Sierra Leone reiterating his country’s great appreciation for the profound relations with Egypt Ambassador Silla also expressed Sierra Leone’s keenness to upgrade the frameworks of bilateral cooperation and to leverage Egypt’s broad experience in the field of agriculture, Fisheries, and other mega projects.

The meeting further discussed areas of specific needs and enquiries and the necessary steps to be taken in actualizing this dream. The General expressed willingness for virtual meetings at all times. Special reference was made to the Afrieximbank for consultation and provision of funds for the projects. Mention was also made of legal agreement, financial terms, and other responsibilities to be undertaken by the parties

Furthermore, General Rayan added that they have entered into cooperation with other countries like Tanzania, and Egypt is always looking for new areas for cooperation with African countries.

The meeting ended with both sides expressing optimism for the practicalization of everything they agreed upon.
