The Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety (EAFMS), ex-Ports and Lighthouses Administration (PLA), is one of the first governmental facilities as it dates back to 1830 when an assembly was appointed to supervise the preparation to receive large vessels in the port of Alexandria.

Real Admiral Geziry received the visiting delegation, welcomed and allowed them to make all inquiries before expressing the honor to cooperate with Sierra Leone in the specific fields of maritime safety.

Ambassador Silla recounted previous experiences and shared special scenarios while serving previously as Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation which gives him the hindsight to coordinate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on training and knowledge exchange between the two Maritime Authorities of both countries. Ambassador said his goal is to establish shipping links between the two countries in the framework of the Africa Free Trade Area so as to increase the volume of trade between the north and West African states.

The parties also agreed on establishing a direct relationship for coordination on vessels delisting from Egypt, attestation by Sierra Leone Embassy in Cairo before final re-registration in Sierra Leone.

During the deliberations, a brief documentary was shown on the operations, core values, and achievements of EAMS.

Both parties underscored the essence of the partnership and committed to sharing a draft MOU for contributions on technical and contextual issues applicable for mutual benefit.
