Cairo – 8 August, 2023:

A delegation of Members of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives arrived Monday, 7 August 2023 on a visit to strengthen ties between Sierra Leonean and Egyptian youth. The Egyptian delegation was headed by Tarek El Khouly (MP), a senior member of the Egyptian House of Representatives.

The delegation held productive meetings with His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq Silla as well as senior Embassy members and other MP Representatives.

During the meeting, Hon. El Khouly congratulated His Excellency President Julius Bio on his re-election and said their visit is to further relations between Egypt and Sierra Leone youth. The coordinating committee expressed the deepness of the significant relations between Egypt and Sierra Leone and the excellent affiliation between the two countries in vital fields. He furthered that the committee is composed of young politicians whose ages within the range of 40 years but has the stronger backing of the Egyptian parliament and Foreign Ministry.

The meeting touched on a wide range of mutual interests and cooperation and Hon. Khouly expressed Egypt’s support for Sierra Leone’s political stability, youth empowerment, and prosperity.

In a statement, His Excellency Ambassador Sadiq Silla welcomed the delegation and expressed honor and satisfaction that the Members of Parliament chose Sierra Leone for such a partnership. He saw the move as timely and reflected of His Excellency President Bio’s youth and women’s empowerment policy which is reflective in the number of youth and women in appointive and elective positions in his second term. He assured of building a stronger wall on the existing relation. He ended on a note of optimism that the exchange between the two can unlock many doors that can be of mutual benefit.

Samuel Alie Kargbo, Head of Chancery expressed the willingness of the Embassy of Sierra Leone to facilitate whatever beneficial programs to foster the ties.

It is expected that the Members of Parliament will get effective collaboration with youth groups in Sierra Leone in not just the area of politics but also in the fields of Education, Culture, tourism, agriculture, and other areas of dual interests. The two sides agreed on taking necessary actions; forming a technical committee for engagements with youth groups and areas of cooperation that will set the blueprint for a Memorandum of Understanding in the specific fields of interest.

Ultimately, the delegation presented the Coordination Medal to Ambassador Silla in appreciation of the long-standing relations between the two countries.

The other members of the Egyptian delegation who attended the meeting included Representatives Basma Elokda, Elsaid Rmzy Elsaid, and Youssef Nawa.
