Director General of Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) Ms. Musayeroh Barrie and Legal Adviser Jusu Kallon Esq. were received by Egyptian Civil Aviation authorities on Wednesday 8 November 2023 at Egypt Air Training Academy. Ms. Barrie affirmed her willingness to move aggressively to attract investment, and support for training and guidance to expand the aviation sector in Sierra Leone.

This came during a two days meeting with the Egyptian Aviation Authority and the Egyptian Academy for training in Cairo, both meetings were within the framework of reviving and activating a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). It is clear that both aviation sectors share close understanding based on a long history of cooperation.

Ms. Barrie declared that the call aims at getting hindsight over issues of commonality, and realistically assessing the processes and progress made by the Egyptian Aviation. She claimed that as a professional aviation security expert and professional in the sector, cares about collective action for progress. “We have the obligation to develop the aviation sector in Sierra Leone; the foundation has already been set. Egypt and Sierra have been in close contact, as such we are looking for wider aviation collaboration in line with the Yamoussoukro protocol” said Ms. Barrie.

Ms. Musayeroh underscored that Sierra Leone and Egypt share close political understanding based on the long history of cooperation. For now, the country offers a unique opportunity to partners for investment. DG Barrie asserted that recent aviation results rate the aviation sector at a high of 71% security and 72% on safety which is encouraging for the sector.

Ambassador Sadiq Silla pronounces that the joint action will eventually lead into the twinning of the two agencies. He explained the background of these combined efforts dating back to 2022 when he assumed office as Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt. He expressed certainty that if reality prevails on the ground, it will be of mutual benefit.

Major Gen. Chief Executive Officer, Chairman, Pilot Ezzat Ibrahim Alie, while focusing on the revised draft MOU Shared, congratulated Ms. Barrie on her leadership and expressed delight over her visit. He assured of his total commitment and desire to support in all fields.

President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Amr El Sharkawy guaranteed to collaborate and participate in all activities, and all forms to raise the level of safety of the Sierra Leone aviation sector amidst the economic crisis. He asserted that the two are on a mission to set the vision of the leadership of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority. He disclosed that all 128 training courses are open to Sierra Leone for grabs.

Again, Ms. Barrie said progress has been made but demonstrated more determination to leverage the Egyptian experience to make Sierra Leone IN solidarity as Africans so as to leave their footprints on the aviation industry. She declared her aspirations as working harder, within a stipulated time, to improve the standards to the required state

At the Egypt Air Training Academy, Captain Waleed Soliman, President, EGYPTAIR Training Academy, Egypt air Holding Company presented a dossier of programs of study and courses offered at their academy. He extended an invitation to Sierra Leone to utilize the opportunities available. Captain Fouad Gohar, General Manager, Air Transport Agreements, said they are honored for Ms. Barrie’s visit encouraged her to push till she achieved her goals. Deputy President of the academy, Captain Moataz Fathalla Refaat equally, assured that, MS. Barrie’s goals are near to accomplishment. He assumed that this agreement, when completed, will enhance the platform for exchange of views and promote intra-Africa aviation development.

At the end of the deliberations, the deliberation was led by Captain Fouad Moataz Gohar, Captain Moataz F Refaat and Mdm Mona Hendawy on a physical examination tour of the flight simulation equipment and Air Hostess’s trading facilities.
